Jarrod Shoemaker takes 3rd at Huatulco ITU Triathlon World Cup
The morning sun blazed at the start of the ITU Triathlon World Cup race in the town of Huatulco on Mexico's Pacific coast. In the high temperatures, Jarrod Shoemaker set out for a piece of the $80,000 purse on the line.
The swim started out at a fast pace and Shoemaker emerged with the lead group of about 12 athletes and was only 17-seconds behind the leader. The heat and hilly terrain continued to take their toll on the athletes as they transitioned to the bike. Losing a few minutes on the bike, Shoemaker was sitting in fifth going into the run. Pushing hard in the last lap of the run, Shoemaker was able to make up some needed time and crossed with the fastest run of the day at 32:21, giving him a 3rd place finish.
